The Chillicothe Fire Department provides emergency response for fires, emergency medical needs, hazardous material incidents and other emergencies in the City of Chillicothe. The department has an active fire prevention program which includes a Fire Safety Inspection program, Fire Code Enforcement, senior citizen and childhood education and the SAFE (Smoke Alarms For Everyone) and SHIP (Senior Home Inspection Program) programs. Our fire investigation unit determines the cause and origin of fires and seeks to prosecute those who intentionally set fire for personal gain or to cause harm to others. Our goal is to provide professional and courteous services to our community and treat everyone as our family, friends or neighbors when we respond to your emergency.

The department has 49 members including a Chief, an Assistant Chief, three Captains, six Lieutenants, 37 Firefighters and an Administrative Coordinator.  The Chief, Assistant Chief, Administrative Coordinator and one of the Fire Inspectors work 40 hours per week. The remaining employees are spilt into three units primarily working 24 hours on and 48 hours off to provide emergency services 24 hours a day. The last couple of years we have responded to a record number of emergency calls of over 6300 calls each year. Our employees are highly trained (most completing over 1500 hours of training) and experienced in providing emergency services to our community. All uniformed employees are certified at the  Firefighter II level, and all officers have received professional level training based on their current rank. All uniformed employees are certified as Emergency Medical Technicians and 38 are certified as Paramedics and able to provide advanced life support in a medical emergency. All of our uniformed employees are trained to the Hazardous Materials Operations level to contain a hazardous material incident and 33 are trained to the Technician level so they can mitigate a hazardous material incident.
